Ryder scores double ton Jesse Ryder [Images] scored his first Test double century and then was dismissed next ball as New Zealand [Images] posted an imposing 592 for six at tea on the second day of the second Test against India on Friday.

Wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum [Images] was not out on 103, his third Test century and first against a major Test team, while captain Daniel Vettori [Images] was on 43 at the break. The pair had already put on a 115-run partnership.

Ryder resumed after lunch on 191 and hooked Zaheer Khan [Images] behind square for his 24th boundary to bring up his 200 but played on the next ball while chasing a wide delivery.

The 24-year-old's 201 was the third highest individual score by a New Zealander against India, behind the 239 scored by Graham Dowling in 1968 and Bert Sutcliffe's 230 not out in 1955.

Ryder shared in a 121-run fifth wicket partnership with James Franklin, who was the only wicket to fall in the first session on Friday when he was run out for 52, after a record 271-run partnership with Ross Taylor [Images] (151) on Thursday.

Taylor helped Ryder rescue New Zealand's innings after they slumped to 23-3 within the first hour of play after winning the toss and choosing to bat on a good wicket at McLean Park.

India lead the three-match series 1-0 after the 10-wicket victory in Hamilton last week.
